We are in shape! How about YOU?

Do you really want to answer? I feel round like a snowman after eating so many Christmas goodies! To add to our imaginary snow fun we borrowed an idea from http://mrsleeskinderkids.blogspot.com/
This was a great way to  review and assess shape recognition and identification. We modified the scarf by using foam letters to spell our names. Later, the snowmen served as an activator for a graphing lesson. Check back soon for the uploaded graph. These chubby little fellows make me smile each time I look at them.  Cool fun!

Snow ball Fight!

We rarely see a Southern Snowman, (although I am sure he would be a true gentleman) but we have had some frigid temperatures this year! After returning from an "ice" day,we read stories about snow and ice.
To get a taste of snow packed action that we often miss, and burn some energy, my student teacher decided we would have a snowball fight! (I love inspiring young minds!) The students each chose a word to write in the snow(on a white sheet of paper). Then we rolled our snowballs and the fun began! The children quickly began throwing their snowballs. When they heard "FREEZE", they picked up the snow ball closet to them and read their word. They compared with the person closet to them to see if they had the same word. Then they rolled the balls again for more fun! Everyone was a winner!

Recharged!

Today is day one of my official "blogging". While the format is sketchy, and lacking whistles and bells, I still wanted to give you a taste of what I hope to offer. I am most excited to serve as a student teacher mentor to an awesome teacher candidate this semester; another passion that feeds my own professional growth. The strong knowledge of child development and learning standards that she brings has certainly refueled my energy levels and inspired me to keep up with her pace. Already, the students are more engaged and eager to take ownership in their work. Check back often for additions to the menu and reflections on our favorite goodies!
